Description

Blue and Gold Macaw Parrots for Sale

Native to the forests and grasslands of Central America, the blue and gold macaw is an intelligent, affectionate parrot that bonds strongly with owners. We offer captive-bred baby macaws from reputable breeders.

Origin and Conservation Status:

Found across Central America in lowland forests near rivers and swamps. Also inhabit savannahs with tall trees. Travel in pairs and flock together to forage for food.

Listed as endangered due to habitat destruction and trapping for the pet trade. Many young birds are taken from nests, causing population declines. Also introduced in Puerto Rico.

Temperament and Behavior:

Extremely friendly and social. Eager to learn tricks and talk, with the ability to mimic around 20 words and phrases. Their clear, loud voice makes training easy.

Thrive on interaction and attention from their owners. Enjoy being out of cage and playing. Well-behaved even around strangers, so good for taking places on a leash.

Vocalizations:

Blue and Gold Macaw Parrot For Sale are renowned for their piercing, shrill calls that carry over long distances. Especially vocal in the mornings and evenings. Calls can be disruptive to neighbors.

However, their talking ability and mimicking skill is unmatched. With training, they become excellent talkers. Ideal for those in apartments due to clear speech.

Appearance:

Blue and Gold Macaw Parrot For Sale are distinctive green forehead and teal blue back, wings and tail. Underside and chest are golden yellow. Large black curved beak and facial patches.

Two subspecies exist – the Bolivian blue and gold macaw and blue-throated macaw. Genders appear identical. Requires DNA or surgical sexing.

Care and Ownership:

Require large cages minimum 5 feet tall by 3-4 feet wide. Dedicated bird-safe rooms ideal. Need 2-4 supervised hours out of cage daily.

Costly to own between cage, toys, veterinary care, high-quality diet. Form close bonds with owners and can live 60+ years.

Diet:

Need variety of fresh fruits, veggies, pellets, seeds. Recommended 1/2 – 3/4 cups of food daily. Remove uneaten portions at night.

Fruits like apples, oranges, mangos. Vegetables like sweet potato, leafy greens. Fortified pellets and grains like flax/chia.

Health Issues:
